Bammel Band General Information
The band directors at Bammel are Diane Vasquez and Josh Mooney.
Current Teacher Assignments for the 2007-2008 school year
BAND HALL HOURS 8:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday 7:10 am - 6:00 pm, Tuesday through Thursday 8:00 am - 4:15 pm, Friday
Students are encouraged to come to the band hall before or after school to use the percussion instruments (percussion students only) and the practice rooms. Students need to obtain a pass from Ms. Vasquez or Mr. Mooney so that they can enter the building in the morning. Students practicing in the morning are required to arrive prior to 8:00am and stay in their practice room until they are released to 1st period (6th grade) or breakfast (7th and 8th grade). Students are not permitted to go to other areas of the building. Students who come to practice should be doing just that: practicing with a purpose.
Practicing and Commitment Playing in band requires outside practice time (homework). Students who do not practice on a regular basis will not achieve their potential. Students should practice every day for at least 30 minutes. Students are required to maintain a practice log that is signed by their parent/guardian and turned in every Monday for a grade.
Private Lessons The private lesson program is a very important factor in the success of Spring ISD music programs. All students are encouraged to study privately. The special attention of a steady private study program gives the student confidence and a more thorough understanding of their instrument, as well as their own individual abilities. Qualified teachers come to the school at a time agreed upon by the teacher and student. Lesson times can be before/after school and/or during band class. Lessons are billed monthly from the Spring ISD department of Performing and Visual Arts. Any questions regarding accounts should be directed to Sofia Velasco, SISD's coordinator of private lessons: (832) 764-4128.
Instrument Rental Fees There is a yearly fee of $80.00 to help defray the cost of maintenance for SISD school-owned instruments. Any student playing on a school-owned instrument is required to pay this fee.
Section Rehearsals All Symphonic and Concert Band students have weekly practices before or after school. Attendance is required and is crucial for individual progress as well as the section's success in their band. Sectional times will be set in advance by band. Students receive a grade for attendance as well as for assignments/tests played during sectionals.
Grades Students will be graded using a combination of the following criteria: practice logs, section rehearsals, playing tests, written work, extended projects, and performances.
Bammel Band Booster Club The Bammel Band Booster Club is an organization of parents and community who provide support for the band program. We encourage everyone to join. The booster club is headed by a board - parents who are willing to serve as officers. You may receive a phone call to help with activities or chaperone events. We encourage you to help if you can. Our kids are great and you will enjoy spending time with them. Funds raised by our band boosters provide many educational and social opportunities for our students. These include: instruments and music supplies, clinics/master classes with guest professional musicians, bus costs, entry fees, meals, and parties. |
